Q. I want to choose a career in sales. What advice can you give me?
A. Selling, sales management, marketing, retail management and international
trade and services are all sales oriented. You are advised to choose any one of the
above fields according to your interests. They are all rewarding careers for a
higher post in all walks of life.

Q. Is it necessary to have professional qualifications ?
A. In this competitive, commercial and technological environment, it is imperative
that you have a professional qualification in sales.

Q. Why do I have to choose The Society of Sales & Marketing course ?
A. The Society of Sales & Marketing is the only Society which awards certificates
and diplomas in all the four areas of selling, namely – selling and sales
management, marketing, retail management and international trade.

Q. What examinations do I have to take?
A. There are three stages of the professional examinations, namely, the Certificate,
Advanced Certificate and Diploma.

Q. How can I study for the examination?
A. You can study for the examination at college. The Society can give you the
addresses of colleges which teach the course. The Tutorial College of Commerce,
the Society`s Supportive College and Tutorial Centre for Vocational Training and
Academic Learning also offers distance learning courses for the SSM examinations.

Q. Do I have to pass the Certificate before I go onto the Advanced Certificate and the
Advanced Certificate before the diploma?

A. Yes. However, if you have passed equivalent subjects in other examinations, you
can apply for exemptions.

Q. Do I have to complete SSM qualification within a set time limit ?

A. No. There is no time limit for completing SSM qualifications. But you have to
renew your student membership by paying the annual subscription.

Q. Can I change course, from say, retail management to marketing?
A.Yes you can, with ease, as the subjects are inter-related except the specialized
subjects.

Q. Which university will accept SSM qualifications?
A. A number of universities will accept SSM qualifications based also upon other factors e.g.
practical experience.

Q. Is there a branch of the Society in my country?
A. Yes. There are alumni Local Groups in various countries. The Local Groups organize
meetings, seminars and social functions for the benefit of members.

Q. Does SSAM have a website I can visit for more information?
Yes. The website address is www.ssm.org.uk.
